When Ezra, my son, is upset or grumpy, I sing “This little light of mine” to him and it always puts him in a good mood. He starts smiling and cooing and it’s only that one particular song that does it for him. I don’t even know why I started singing it to him, but it really is something to watch his mood change so quickly.
When you’re little and singing that song, you really don’t understand what the “light” is – or at least, I didn’t (that I remember). Now that I sing it as an adult, I “get” it. It does make me stop and think, “Am I really letting my light shine like I should?” If you catch me hiding my light, bring it to my attention, ok?
Take a minute and ponder if you’re letting your light shine, too…
This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine.
Hide it under a bushel, NO!
I’m gonna let it shine.
Won’t let satan “woof” it out,
I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine till Jesus comes,
I’m gonna let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, all the time.
