the tongue

While I was eating breakfast this morning, I started reading some of the Sunday school lesson for the upcoming week. It’s going to be about the tongue…how small it is, but how much damage it can cause. There was a whole page of scripture about controlling our tongues (here’s a sampling – http://www.biblegateway.com/quicksearch/?quicksearch=tongue&qs_version=KJV).

In one sense, I can pride myself because I rarely ever swear/curse/cuss (whatever you wanna call it). I really have a good grip on that part of my mouth. However, at the same time, I am quick to have a snide remark to say about someone if I’m in a mood. I know I’ve put people down or said mean things in a bad, uncontrolled moment.

Reading that lesson has reminded me again that I need to be careful what I say. I’m one of those people who smiles a lot and has nice things to say to most people (99.9%), but I’m bad to be judgmental behind a person’s back. So, I have lots of work to do!

Just when you think you’re such a wonderful person, God gives you a reality check and reminds you that no one is perfect and we all have a long way to go.

My son has a habit of running around with his tongue stuck out.
